New York Announces Paid Family Leave Rates for 2022

New York state’s Department of Financial Services has released the paid family
leave employee contribution rate for 2022. In addition, the 2022 maximum
benefit amount is now available.


2022 Contribution and Benefit Rates


New York paid family leave is funded entirely through employee contributions.
The contribution rate beginning Jan. 1, 2022, has been set at the same level as
for calendar year 2021: 0.506%, plus a risk adjustment of 0.005%, for a total of
0.511% of an employee’s wages each pay period. The annual maximum
employee contribution for 2022 is $423.71 (up from $385.34 in 2021).
In addition, the maximum weekly benefit amount for paid family leave in 2022
will be $1,068.36—an increase of $96.75 over the amount for 2021.


New York Paid Family Leave


New York paid family leave provides eligible employees with up to 12 weeks of
job-protected, paid time off to bond with a new child, care for a family member
with a serious health condition or handle personal matters when a family
member is deployed abroad on active military service.


Paid family leave is also available in some situations when an employee or their
minor, dependent child is under an order of quarantine or isolation due to
COVID-19.


Employees taking paid family leave receive 67% of their average weekly wage,
up to a cap of 67% of the current statewide average weekly wage (SAWW). For
2022, the SAWW is $1,594.57.
